Hypnotherapy for the Menopause Peri-Menopause and Post-Menopause

Updated: Mar 9, 2023

Menopause is a challenging time for many women.

Some women breeze through the transition easily, whilst many begin to suffer from unfamiliar body changes at the early stages of peri-menopause. Menopause in all its stages is a natural life phase and not an illness. Yet, many of the ways it affects us are very difficult to manage.

Fortunately, there is much more openness around peri-menopause, menopause and post-menopause these days than when I experienced it. Women would suffer the various changes, not knowing which way to turn or that what they were experiencing was perfectly normal. For some women knowing that the changes they are experiencing are normal helps them come to terms. Meanwhile, many women still suffer the psychological impact and physical symptoms.

The good news is that solution focused hypnotherapy is highly effective at treating the undesirable impacts of all the menopause stages. Crucially, hypnotherapy doesn't only treat psychological symptoms such as brain fog, anxiety, depression, forgetfulness and irritability; it is a highly effective treatment for the physical symptoms such as excessive sweating, insomnia, lowered libido, sore swollen breasts and vaginismus. Many women experience feelings of loss as they lose control over their bodies and health, something that frequently leads to increased anxiety and a vicious circle is formed.

What is Peri-Menopause the Menopause and Post Menopause

Peri-menopause can take between three and ten years. Many women experience things like sudden weight gain if they don't change their diet and begin to experience hot flushes and night sweats. It’s an uncomfortable time for many. Peri-menopause is the time leading up to menopause. It is the start of the hormonal transition that creates physical and psychological changes.

Menopause is when women stop having periods. Clinicians describe menopause as being complete twelve months after a woman's last period.

Post-menopause is the time after the menopause is complete. However, many women still continue to experience symptoms, for years in some cases. Vaginal dryness and urinary incontinence are likely problems whilst health concerns such as osteoporosis and urinary tract infections come to the fore.

Many Treatments are Not Risk Free

Women turn to HRT and over the counter treatments. HRT is known to increase cardiac and cancer risk. Many of the over counter treatments are not sufficiently licensed or tested but may increase cancer risk and have other side effects. Many potential side effects of over the counter medicines are unknown and clinicians say that more research is required.
